Nuels Chartered Professional Accountant is a licensed professional accounting firm in Edmonton, Alberta, led by Emmanuel Ssembatya, CPA. We keep our client list deliberately small, so the CPA who signs your engagement letter is the one who knows your file — no rotating account team, no handing you down the line.
Most of our clients are incorporated owner-managed businesses — companies where the shareholder, the director and the person doing the work are the same person. That shapes how we work. We plan corporate and personal tax together rather than in separate silos, and we give advice in plain terms, before a decision is made rather than after it shows up on a return.
Emmanuel Ssembatya, CPA
Emmanuel is a Chartered Professional Accountant registered in Alberta. He qualified through the CPA Western School of Business in January 2024, and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Makerere University in Kampala.
He came to public practice from inside the financial system. Eleven years in banking and finance first, most recently with one of Canada’s major banks, taught him how large institutions keep records that hold up to scrutiny — reconciled every month, documented properly, ready for whoever asks. Then five years in public practice — audit, assurance and tax, including senior-level audit work — showed him what happens to a small business when those habits are missing.
The firm exists because of what he saw in between. Owner-managed businesses were being passed down the line to whoever was free, while the questions that actually mattered to them — how to take money out of the company, whether the books would survive a CRA review — waited until year-end for an answer. He wanted to work with owners directly, and to be the person who answers.
What he is known for is deliberately unglamorous: compliance and accuracy. Books that are right the first time, returns that go in on time, and nothing unexpected at tax time.
